I have always wanted to hike Independence Peak, into the lakes. On Monday Sept. 2 2013 Alan and I hiked the mountain. We had planned to leave home at 7:00 am, but when we got up it was pouring rain! we decided to wait an hour or two to see if the weather would improve. At about 8:30, the sun started peaking thru the clouds and we decided to just go. We got to the trailhead and started on our way at 10:20 am was a bit cloudy but weather was perfect. It is 3.1 miles to first lake and about one mile from 1st lake to 3rd lake. There are 5 lakes, that feed into each other. each one a higher elevation.
The hike itself climbs 1289 feet in elevation, so a good incline up the mountain. Was a beautiful day and a beautiful hike!

3rd lake!

We got back home about 6:00 pm. Tired and sore, but enjoyed the day very much!
